The Owlet by Ishan Shanavas - Pilot Issue!
Hi friends,
Greetings from Bangalore!
Welcome to the first-ever edition of The Owlet!
In my newsletter, I plan on writing about my life as I attempt to pursue my interests in this chaotic world. I will write about my work and my ever-present quest for learning. I also will share my favourite ideas around Nature, Culture, Media, Photography, Art, and other topical subjects.
I have been working for the past few weeks to get the newsletter off the ground. That meant days of planning, designing, and editing, not to mention hours and hours of writing.
I regularly read the newsletters of Ali Abdaal, David Perell, Nathan Barry, and other creators . Their emails help me find some of the most exciting content on the internet, teaching me more than newspapers and textbooks ever could. Thus, I find it only fitting that I start my own newsletter.
So, after a year into the making, it has finally come to fruition.😊
Now that everything is in place, let’s embark on this journey together!

Intellectual Loneliness - David Perell — perell.com I have a confession to make: I leave most parties early because I'd rather read a book. The world comes to life when I'm surrounded by ideas.

Photo-Story
After a pleasant morning at Thattekad Bird Sanctuary, I was getting into my car when I saw a Bonnet macaque sitting on top of the neighbouring vehicle. He was eyeing me curiously, seeing I had a packet of sweets in my hand.
Hurriedly, I jumped into my car and slammed the door shut. The monkey, unhappy with my actions, moved closer, peering through the glass. His gaze was unwavering, and his message clear—” I want those sweets!”
This image truly captures the animal’s mood at the time. Edited in black and white, the monkey’s stare seems to penetrate you, exposing you raw. I consider this one of my top fine art images.
Wildlife SOS featured this image in their newsletter in April 2022.
