I love the photo your dad took of you. That could be the cover of your book.
Also, I was intrigued by the camera trap idea. It seems to me like a metaphor for writing. We are, in a way, responsible for setting up our mind to be an idea trap, poised to take a picture, or mental note, the moment an interesting notion crosses the path of our capture device, which is really just a receptive mind.
Well Karena, I decided to go with an illustrated cover because I didn't want my cover to have only one animal or landscape. My book is about diversity, and I wanted the cover to reflect that.
But don't worry! The artist I've gotten on board is absolutely amazing! He'll definitely do a good job :)
This is the first time I read about camera traps. They're so interesting, and I devoured the piece you shared about the black panther photo. Would definitely love to read your attempts at it one day!
I think handwriting forces my mind to slow down. It is a little more deliberate than typing (in my opinion), and that made it easier to write lyrically.
Somehow, the mechanical aspect of typing sometimes takes the creativity out of me. Perhaps I'm too old-fashioned. I just know that this is what is working for me at the moment.
It does make a ton of sense. I'm really interested in how different modes of thinking can compliment each other. Typing, handwriting, white-boarding, conversation, voice recording, etc. I like your experiments!

Ahh yes that is a good idea. Luckily, I'm getting an artist to design the cover. I wanted it to be an illustration!
Wow, I never thought of comparing the camera trap to writing. You're quite good spotting metaphors, Rick!
Why? WHY????? would you get an illustration for the cover when you are such a great photographer?
This is such a compliment! hahaha

That underwater flight photograph is STUNNING! Great idea to break down what is appealing in each.
Ahh, somehow I thought you'd like the first one...interesting!
I did, at first glance, because I thought it was Kathy Karn's. Her similar shot is stunning.
Ya, I'm sure Kathy's style is inspired a lot by David Yarrow ::)

Haha, well, I might write about it very soon. Stay tuned Rebecca!
What does handwriting open in your mind that typing doesn’t?
